Fons Peeters, Bert Peeters, and Ysbrand Wijnant conducted comprehensive laboratory and field measurements of noise barriers on different samples through an extended measurement program. They employed various measurement methods under the EN1793 standard, including laboratory measurements and field measurements, as well as the SonoCat technology developed by SoundInSight. These methods cover multiple aspects such as acoustic isolation, absorption, and diffraction to comprehensively assess the performance of noise barriers.

Research Highlights:
- Comparison of Laboratory and Field Measurements:The study found that although there are differences in overall levels between laboratory measurements and field measurements, all measurement methods can distinguish the isolation characteristics of different variants. This provides new insights into the correlation between laboratory data and field data.
- Application of SonoCat Technology:The application of SonoCat technology demonstrates its ability to measure the sound absorption efficiency of materials in complex sound fields, relying on no assumptions about the global sound field, thus providing more accurate field measurement results.
- Correlation of Measurement Results:The research results indicate that field measurements have a good correlation with laboratory measurements at an overall level, which provides the possibility of validation and consistency for the acoustic requirements of noise barriers.

Conclusions and Outlook:
The conclusions drawn from the research point out that although there are differences between field and laboratory measurements, the relationships found in this project are consistent with previous research results. Additionally, the SonoCat measurement system can detect local effects, while laboratory measurements are very sensitive to leaks. These findings are significant for the design and evaluation of noise barriers and help improve the effectiveness of noise control measures.
In summary, this research not only provides new scientific evidence for the assessment of the acoustic characteristics of noise barriers but also points the way for the future development of noise control technologies. With the application of these new methods, we can expect more precise and effective designs and implementations of noise barriers.
